Christine was smarting under the impact of an unhappy love affair, and needed a complete change of scene, so when Burton Alexander invited her to stay on his cattle station in the outback she thought she might as well accept. True, Burton had asked her, for reasons best known to himself, to pose as his fiancée while she was there, but Christine hadn't any real objection, so she agreed to that as well.
